Restaurant Review: Braai House
Stratford boasts a remarkable culinary scene today, Bruce, your host at Perth County Inn and Edison's Inn, shares his experience at Braai House:
"Braai House and Braai Bar inject a touch of urban sophistication into Stratford's restaurant landscape. 'Braai' refers to South African BBQ - open fire cooking. Braai Bar is located on the main floor of the building and Braai House is on the second floor. The sensuous lighting, gorgeous restaurant features and smooth music - not too loud - set the tone for the evening. Casual and fine dining may seem polar opposites, however, the two Braai restaurants bring casual and fine dining together seamlessly.
"Anthony Jordan and Kimberly Hurley, the two owners, have clearly invested their heart and soul into the restaurants and yes, their money. This season, the restaurants have transitioned towards a more approachable menu, moving away from the heights of fine dining. The Braai Bar (ground floor) offers a more intimate setting, specializing in elevated bar fare &ndash think gourmet burgers and succulent ribs. Our group dined at Braai House (upstairs), where open-fire cooking takes center stage. Everything, from scallops to chicken, pizza to desserts, spends time over the flames.
"I opted for the Braai-ed Scallops, embracing my burgeoning pescatarian leanings. My partner selected the Braai Chicken Bowl, and our friend chose the Garden Pizza. My scallops were perfectly firm, imbued with a subtle buttery flavor and a delightful hint of chili heat. The pizza dough &ndash thin, airy, and subtly sweet &ndash was a triumph (I confess, I indulged in a few irresistible bites and couldn't resist finishing what she left). The chicken was incredibly tender, and the vegetables boasted a satisfying crispness. Needless to say, our plates were emptied with gusto. We were thoroughly satiated, but sadly, we'll have to save the heavenly desserts for next time.
Five delectable stars! (And by the way, the service was impeccable.)"
Bruce, your host at Perth County Inn and Edison's Inn, is always eager to share his insights on the Stratford dining scene."
