Member Property Spotlight: Perth County Inn And Edison’s Inn

Bruce, your host at Perth County Inn and Edison's Inn, is a frequent contributor to our social media posts. His "Stratford Day-Tripping" ideas for local excursions have been really popular.  This entry is about Bruce himself and his charming Stratford properties &ndash your perfect home base for your stay in Stratford and those day-trip adventures.

Raised on a cattle ranch in southern Alberta, Bruce traded in sub-zero temperatures for a global career in banking. His travels took him far and wide, from the fjords of Norway to the vibrant markets of Ghana. Eventually drawn back to Canada, he stumbled upon a captivating property on Ontario Street. Intriguingly, the second floor had once been home to Thomas Edison during his time as a telegraph operator with the Grand Trunk Railway.

Years later, another opportunity presented itself with the closure of the beloved Family & Company toy store, a casualty of the growing online retail market. Recognizing the potential in these historic buildings, Bruce embarked on a meticulous renovation project. "I wanted to create an alternative to the uniform experience of large hotel chains," he explains. "Each of our 12 guest rooms &ndash three at Edison's and nine at Perth County &ndash boasts unique character and tells a piece of Stratford's history."

This dedication to preserving Stratford's heritage earned Bruce the prestigious James Anderson Award from Heritage Stratford. Today, the inns offer a diverse range of accommodations, from cozy ground-floor rooms ideal for families to more spacious options perfect for groups of friends. Whether you're seeking a romantic escape or an adventurous family vacation, Bruce and his team are committed to making your stay in Stratford truly memorable.
