Here For Now Theatre
A New Home

Here For Now Theatre (HFN), founded by Artistic Director Fiona Mongillo in 2012, has grown from an "ephemeral pop-up" company to become a major pillar in Stratford's cultural scene. For many of us, the HFN name became better known during the dark days of 2020, when the company moved forward with a season of six productions, in a tent, following social distancing protocols, on the back lawn of a Stratford hotel. It was an important action symbolically, offering hope during uncertain times.
Now, HFN is embarking on a new adventure: a permanent home. HFN has secured a lease for the historic "Old Registry Building" on St. Andrew Street. Built in 1910, it was originally a Land Registry office and one of Stratford's first buildings with electrical wiring installed. It served multiple purposes over the decades. But by 2015 the building was vacant it was slated for demolition in 2021. Through collaborative efforts, significant funding, and fund-raising, HFN secured the lease and began renovations last September. The new venue will feature:

&bull A flexible "black box" theatre space (typically 4 black walls, flat floor).
&bull Seating for approximately 65 patrons.
&bull Dedicated rehearsal and workshop areas for new play development
&bull Wheelchair accessibility.

The new theatre will open for the 2025 season (we have posts about those shows coming up!). Plans are in the works for longer, year-round seasons in the future. And&hellip they are keeping the tent for future outdoor events, which seems like an important, symbolic nod to the troupe’s past and its origin story.
