Here For Now: Stick Around

Here For Now Theatre (HFN) is gearing up for a jam-packed 2025 season. Alongside their brand-new permanent home (see our earlier post), audiences can look forward to five full productions, two short-run shows, and four work-in-progress readings &ndash an abundance of exciting theatre.

Artistic Director, Fiona Mongillo, shared that although she doesn’t intentionally develop the season around a specific theme, a compelling thread invariably emerges. This year, she explained, the season examines the “very human response to a time of crisis: a turning inwards to the relationships that sustain and protect us most: family.”

The season will open in late May with the world-premiere of Stick Around, a bittersweet comedy penned by Canadian Comedy Award winner Rebecca Northan and directed by 30-year theatre veteran Kevin Kruchkywich. Many will recognize these accomplished artists. Northan is also the Artistic Producer of Spontaneous Theatre Canada and co-creator of Goblin: Macbeth and the upcoming Goblin: Oedipus at the Stratford Festival. Kruchkywich, a long-time company member at the Stratford Festival with extensive theatre work across the country, is known for his quick wit and high-energy improvisations. Interestingly, he is also a talented fight choreographer and will serve as a judge in the "Speech Arts & Drama (Improv)" category at the Kiwanis Festival of the Performing Arts Stratford in May.

Stick Around is described as a “moving comedy about a mother, a daughter, and an eight-week goodbye. It’s also living proof that yes, cancer sucks. But some families crack the code: the only way to handle it is to laugh as long and loud as possible.” This poignant and humorous production will run from May 28 to June 8.

The artwork for the HFN 2025 season has once again been created by the multi-faceted visual artist and actor, Mark Uhre. Uhre captivated audiences as Nick Bottom in the Stratford Festival’s 2024 production of “Something Rotten!” and will return to that stage as Rooster Hannigan in the 2025 production of Annie.

We’ll share more details about the other plays in the HFN 2025 season in upcoming posts. For tickets and further information, please visit the Here For Now Theatre website.
