Gourmandise French Bakery

Milverton

When you stay in Stratford for a few days, there are lots of fun day trips and adventures nearby.  Here's a decadent and delightful option: a brief 20-minute drive north through picturesque rolling hills will bring you to the cute little town of Milverton, home to around 1,800 residents.

While known as Ontario's oldest and largest Amish community, Milverton also boasts Gourmandise, a French bakery that has quickly gained a loyal following since opening just over a year ago. Locals and visitors alike line up each morning for their handmade croissants, macarons, tarts, and eclairs.

We chatted with the owners, Aurélie and Antonio, who established Gourmandise in late 2023. Aurélie brings impressive experience, including three advanced degrees in Hotel and Restaurant Management and extensive practical work in her native France. Meanwhile, Antonio warmly greets the steady stream of customers.

During your visit to Milverton, the pair suggests stopping by La Tienda Mexican Grocer & Take Out - for authentic ingredients and tasty take out meals. Afterwards, if you're feeling active, you can access the G2G Rail Trail, perfect for walking, cycling, running, or a leisurely stroll while enjoying your croissant.

Though their free time is limited, the young couple are frequent visitors to Stratford. They enjoy lakeside walks, breathing in the fresh air, and working up an appetite. Aurélie enthusiastically recommends Hansik, the Korean restaurant, saying, “I LOVE to eat there! The owners are very nice, and the Shrimp Yubuchobap are the BEST!” Antonio favors Tuque Shawarma.
